A lot of Saturday morning activity to report on.
- Ohio State finished off #3 Denver last night at Nationwide 4-0 for their first win of the season. Sophomore goaltender Cal Heeter made 39 saves for his first career shutout and the Buckeyes received goals from Taylor Stefishen, Zac Dalpe, Shane Sims and an empty netter from C.J. Severyn.
- Next week, Ohio State begins CCHA conference play on the road against Lake Superior State in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. on Friday and Saturday night.
- Well, the Flames simply cannot play with a five goal lead. I mean, who really can? After blowing a 5-0 lead in Chicago last Monday night and losing 6-5 in overtime, the Flames found themselves up 5-0 after two periods vs rival Vancouver. However, after surrendering three 3rd period goals, the Flames held on for a 5-3 victory.
- Enforcer Brian McGrattan not only beat up Darcy Hordichuk early in the game, but also added the Flames fifth goal in the second period. It was McGrattan's first goal since April 3, 2006.
- The Jackets are back on the ice tonight at home against the Los Angeles Kings (not of Anaheim). The Jackets will put their 4-1 record on the line vs the young Kings who have lost back to back games on their roadtrip 4-2 and 5-2 against the Rangers and Red Wings, respectively.
- The Kings are 4-3 overall and are led by Anze Kopitar's 11 points and newcomer Ryan Smyth's 5 goals. Yes, the mullet will be flowing at Nationwide tonight.
- Lastly, my three co-editors will probably not let me forget that Ohio University and Miami University renew the Battle of the Bricks this afternoon in Athens. Miami puts their perfect 0-6 record on the line vs Admiral Solich's 4-2 Bobcats on Homecoming. Something tells me the RedHawks are still a year or so away...
