Afternoon Scrum 1/6/10

USA! USA! USA! USA!

Hockey headlines for the CBJ and from around the league. Mmmmm... hockey

  • The Americans won the Gold Medal in the World Juniors last night. It was an OT thriller with D John Carlson scoring the winner. The win by Team USA stopped the Canadian's dominance of the tournament at 5 consecutive Golds.
  • More on the potential firing of Ken Hitchcock. Michael Arace makes a prudent argument for why the change needs to be made.
  • CBJ beatwriter Aaron Portzline held his weekly live chat over at dispatch.com. As you can imagine, Hitch and his tenure as coach dominated the chat. Check out the transcript and read what AP had to say.
  • Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com filed this report a couple of days ago... as in before the 7-3 shellacking at the hands of the Sedin line. Check back with Jackets Required later on to get the thought of all of our contributors on the subject.
  • The Washington Capitals have named Alex The Great their new captain. Now there's a C that can point to his on-ice performance as a measuring stick by which to lead.

  1. Arg Canada looses at the Juniors. US wins that and U17 as well!! This better not be a foreshadowing of the Olympics. If so the US will get flooded by the tears rolling down from up North!

Bad day to be a Canadian....Great game however. It would have been nice to have it on TV down here and not watch internet clips....

  3. For the record, it was on NHL Network. Anyway, I had a feeling favor was going to shine on the US after the U17 win. Miami verbal commit Tyler Biggs with both goals in the United States victory over Ontario.
