- Here's Team Russia F Alexander Ovechkin on the hit he laid on Czech Republic C Jamir Jagr. I wanted to upload a video clip of the hit, but NBC is not, shall we say, "blogger-friendly" when it comes to making video available. You can give it a go here. The hit is worth seeing if you haven't already.
- I am a big Evgeni Malkin fan, but as a CBJ fan I'm not sure if I agree with this dude's trade proposal of Nash for Malkin. Check it out and let me know what you think of this proposal in the comments section.
- Team Canada, in the wake of their loss to the Americans, have decided to make a goalie change. Vancouver Canucks netminder Roberto Luongo is in, Martin Brodeur is out. This is a major event in the fortunes of Team Canada. Brodeur has won Gold for Team Canada before, but gave up 4 goals on 22 shots in the 5-3 loss on Sunday. Think the good folks in Vancouver will be geeked to see Luongo play to keep the Canadians in the tourny?
- Josh Alper of nbcnewyork.com wonders why USA F Chris Drury can be so effective for the American team, while being such a disappointment for the NY Rangers. He even manages to get in a dig against the Blue Jackets in the process.
- Team USA GM Brian Burke is a shrewd executive. He has never shied away from public statements about his teams, and this team is no different. Burke is not pleased with the play he saw from Team USA against Team Canada on Sunday night. He expects improved play in order to compete for a medal.

Although others in the hockey world would say I'm nuts, I wouldn't do Nash for Malkin on the CBJ end. No way. Nash is as affordable as a superstar of his caliber have be and he serves as the face of the franchise. Nash is too important to go anywhere right now.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you Pepper. I love Malkin and his game, but I'll take Nash, his better contract and his commitment to Columbus every time. Dude in the post said he thought Nash plus a first round pick for Malkin. Keep eating those mushrooms, my man.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you both 100 percent. While he will take a little heat for not finishing some of his chances in the Olympics, Nash is of the highest quality franchise players in the league -- both on and off the ice. And he has some grit to his game that's coming out more frequently now.
ReplyDeleteTotally unrelated -- do any of you know if Noel got a temporary pay raise for the "interim" title or is he getting the same salary on his tryout tour? The club might be saving some cash if he makes a nice run at the end here...I have to believe he would sign for less than some of the other coaching options if he is greenlighted. Although, Dineen would be coming from the AHL...
