Afternoon Scrum 11/4/09

Today's Scrum starts out with some good news/bad news for the CBJ as they prepare to take on the Sharks tonight.

Good News: Hejda is back! As with all good defensive defenseman, you don't know how good he is 'till he's gone. The 'Playa-Hejda' has been sorly missed. Bad News: Brassard, Commodore & Huselius are out with injuries for tonite and possibly Thursday (@ ATL) as well. Puckrakers with the latest.

  • According to the San Jose Mercury News, the Sharks will also be playing without some regulars in the line up. Fairs fair, eh? Also from the Mercury-News (one of the better hockey papers in the league, btw) is a story about Hitch giving some props to the Sharks. I found Manny Malhotra's comments at the end interesting. And speaking of Manny, he has assumed the role of Player Rep for the Sharks.
  • One final bit of news related to San Jose. You may recall that current Shark Danny Heatly at one time had what some would describe as a "bad relationship" with his former club, the Ottawa Senators. Sens owner Eugene Melnyk has filed a grievance over how a set of circumstances played out regarding a potential trade over the summer that would have sent Heatley to the Oilers. Long story short, the Senators had to pay Heatly 4 million bucks, and now Melnyk wants his money back. THN has the story.
  • Puck Daddy takes a look at how Tampa Bay Head Coach Rick Tocchet has called C Vinny Lecavalier to the floor for his poor play. Super Stars don't always get called out by a coach like they should. Tocchet pulls no punches.
